Amazing, this internet thing...Ed. The Travel Editions (www.traveleditions.co.uk) Walking in Western Crete holiday was really well put together (with Strata Tours - www.stratatours.com), and included just the right balance of walking, local history and culture and excellent food in simple tavernas, and each evening in Angela and Stelios's restaurant a stone's throw from the (basic, but OK) hotel. A and S's personal input into the holiday was greatly appreciated by everyone in the 16-strong group, I feel. Because of the way your company advertises its holidays, there was an intriguing mix of Telegraph and Guardian readers in the group - and for the record, Guardian readers proved to be the more serious walkers and even went trekking down the glorious 17 km-long Samaria gorge on our 'day off', while the Telegraph readers slunk off in their civvies and soft shoes to do museums/culture and shopping instead! I found this highly amusing...
